PYRs over PBRs
Tim Ferriss put me on to PYRs, and my first PYR was done at the end of 2021. It led to a more dialed in 2022, and an even more dialed in 2023. Tim is one of my mentors whom I’ve never met, and is a legend in many respects.
Here is a concise version of this PYR exercise from his X account. Most of all, enjoy the exercise 🙂 it truly generates motivation and momentum. Of course, do this phone phasted! I enjoy starting with top of mind off the dome, then dial it in pulling from calendars/weekly planners/photos apps. It may take a few seshes! We have 365.25 days before we’re at the same solar coordinate. Godspeed.

“Stop being patient and start asking yourself, how do I accomplish my 10-year plan in 6 months? You will probably fail but you will be a lot further ahead of the person who simply accepted it was going to take 10 years.”
Instead of 1/20 of the time, I like the more realistic 2/3 of the time:
“By August 10 this year, if I could only arrive at 3 new states of reality, what would they be? Get as precise as possible.”
habits vs. metrics
“Planning is the easiest thing in the world.”
Blake Eastman [a mentor that is a private coach for the top poker players in the world and runs multiple cutting edge behavioral analysis businesses] held his annual inclusive virtual meeting at the beginning of 2023 and shared how he transcended his life:
Blake noticed he has reached quantitative goals in the past, and not really cared that much. This guy has a dream life after decades of hard + smart work.
With his father slowly crippling from ALS, he did not make any goals for 2022. Instead, he focused solely on habits and let the outcomes unfold. This led to his “most successful year ever” (success always defined by the beholder).
